Maida Vale is a unique Village situated on the site of an historical stockade
at Bell Block, New Plymouth.
Our Rest Home was formerly the Bell Block Hotel, which was an ideal facility
to transform into a complex to accommodate the elderly.
Maida Vale is proud of its professional and experienced staff, for which the
main objective is to ensure all residents are happy and that their needs are
met.
Our bedrooms are large, and most have en-suites. There are spacious communal
areas in the Rest Home - chapel, house bar, and a conservatory. There are
breathtaking, panoramic views from all areas of the home. Residents can relax in
comfort and study the many moods of the Tasman Sea. On a clear day the coastline
is visible all the way to White Cliffs to the north, while in the other
direction, Port Taranaki, with all of its shipping activities, comes into view.
To the south, Mount Egmont (Taranaki) dominates the skyline. In winter, with
its snow-capped crest, the mountain is spectacular. To the east is the busy
little community of Bell Block, which is surrounded by farmland. From time-to-
time, Mount Ruapehu and Mount Tongariro are also visible.
Care Services offered are:

Breakfast is served to you in your own room, but you may come to the dining
room if you wish. Other meals are served in a communal dining room, but if
necessary, for a short time, they can be brought to your room if you are
unwell.
All our menus’ have the approval of a Registered Dietitian.
Your particular dietary needs will be catered for, and you may invite your
friends or visitors to join you for a meal. There is a nominal cost for
this. The kitchen needs to be notified by 10.00 am if you are inviting
guests.
Laundry
All linen is supplied and laundered in the facility. The personal clothing of
residents is laundered by the facility staff, who are extremely careful with it.
However, residents must ensure it is well labelled with their name on it.
We recommend named labels being sewn on to clothing. The staff will do all
the hand washing (e.g. woollen cardigans, etc) of residents.
Cleaning
The household staff are rostered on daily to ensure all rooms are kept clean
and tidy for your comfort.
Social Activities
You are free to continue all your usual social activities such as hobbies,
visiting friends, having them visit you, going shopping, or to clubs etc.
The staff may be able to help you continue with these activities if you are
finding it difficult to get out, or are in need of appropriate transport.
Additionally, Maida Vale has its own Diversional Therapist sometimes called a
Recreation Officer. These staff members will encourage you to take part in such
activities and will assist in organising them. They will also be able to offer
suggestions on what else you might enjoy.
Coming events are written up on the entertainment board daily, and a monthly
planner is also available.
We do our best to cater for all interests,
both inside and outside of the facility. We arrange trips to the theatre,
musicals, art classes, garden tours, exercises, cards, housie, luncheons, bowls,
crafts, shopping trips, family visits, morning and afternoon teas in town,
birthday parties, church services both in the home and in the community, and
many more.
Festive Season and Christmas Day
Families are encouraged to invite residents to celebrate the festive season
in their own homes. However, there is a Christmas dinner at the Rest Home for
those who do not have family living close by. The residents’ Christmas
Party is held a week or two before Christmas, and each person is encouraged to
invite a couple of guests. |
